Automotive Instructional Designer

Summary Description:

This individual will work closely with the Director, Instructional Design to support the development of automotive client solutions and strategic needs/requests. Through strong collaboration and consultation with the client and the Instructional Design team, the Automotive Instructional Designer will apply creativity, innovation, and passion for learning to support best-in-class learning programs and solutions. Through guidance from the Director, Instructional Design, this role will support various stages of the project lifecycle (i.e., analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). The Automotive Instructional Designer will be responsible for collaborating with the Instructional Design team on various Instructional Design elements including training program composition, tasks analyses, needs analyses, business needs/objectives, and measurement/evaluation of training programs. 

In This Role You Will Provide:

Instructional Design

  • Develops course outlines and design documents; creates scripts and storyboards for various delivery methods
  • Designs and develop courses that support the learning needs of our clients
  • Presents course design and materials to internal and client team members and incorporates feedback
  • Validates, delivers, and evaluates the final training program and/or job performance product
  • Ensures that the courses meet the learning objectives and makes necessary adjustments
  • Designs and develops performance measures for our clients’ learning programs

Strategy and Sales Enablement

  • Recommends appropriate learning strategies based on client priorities/objectives and learner needs.
  • Conducts needs assessments/analyses, audience analyses, and task analyses
  • Identify and plan appropriate instructional design strategies and objectives based on analysis of tasks, learners, and subject matter
  • Supports the Sales team in various business development needs (e.g., proposal writing, hours estimates, Instructional Design consultation, etc.)
  • Identifies performance measures based on the learning environment and needs of the client
  • Researches developments in the training industry including learning technologies, techniques, adult learning methodology, innovations, and related topics

Instructional Content Direction/Support

  • Ensures learning deliverables provided by contract IDs adhere to Ardent and client-specific quality standards across all assigned projects/programs
  • Uses collaborative milestone reviews with contract ID to evaluate and provide feedback on course content/structure during the development process
  • Supports the Project/Program Manager with the curation of the ID handoff document prior to project handoff
  • Attends project-specific meetings with internal and client teams for all assigned projects/programs
  • Participates in collaboration meetings with contract IDs and creative staff to support graphic/visual development
  • Reviews individual course components (e.g., participant/facilitator guides, WBTs, job aids, visuals) to ensure they meet the learning objectives; recommends necessary adjustments as needed
  • Works directly with the client and contract ID as needed to design and develop courses that support learning needs

Resource Allocation/Management

  • Ensures Contract IDs adhere to the application of established instructional design criteria and Ardent processes
  • Collaborates with Project/Program Management and identifies ID/writer resource for projects/programs
  • Communicates ID opportunities to selected ID/writer contractors
  • Maintains the Contractor Management System (CMS) for all ID/writer contractors
  • Onboards all new ID/writer contractors
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Organizational Development or related field or equivalent years of experience
  • Proven automotive industry experience
  • At least 5-7 years proven experience working in instructional design working with instructional technology such as (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, and other authoring tools)
  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Automotive industry experience required
  • Proven working experience in instructional design
  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills
  • Solid knowledge of course development software (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Captivate) and at least one Learning Management System
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A growth-minded mentality – willing to take feedback and grow as an ID
  • A high level of understanding of project management principles
  • Strong client services experience
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills
  • Solid knowledge of course development software (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, and other authoring tools) and at least one Learning Management System
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with various client contact types
  • Capacity to flex to various contract talent and client needs to create/maintain relationships and achieve success
  • Visual design aptitude and ability to storyboard
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
