Director of Automotive Business Development

The Director of Automotive Business Development is a key role for Ardent and will be out-front solidifying new business relationships with automotive brands we do not currently work with. We have designed this position to be perpetually on the pursuit of new opportunities with smart hand-offs to Account Directors and Program Managers for ongoing client nourishment and growth. Though we are considering applicants nationwide, ideal candidates will be based in one of the following regions: Southern CA, Nashville TN, Detroit MI, Rochester NY, or the NYC Metro area.  

Summary of Responsibilities

To be successful, the Director of Automotive Business Development will need to make smart prospecting choices, establish credibility, expand an intra-client network, productively challenge prospects, and work collaboratively with our Marketing and Solutions teams to put forth strong value propositions of Ardent’s service offerings.  

Prospecting and Pipeline Management (60% est.)

  • Expand Sphere of Influence – Reach out to and build relationships with influencers and buying decision makers within the automotive industry, honing in on the learning and development space at both the corporate and retail level.
  • Challenge and Consult – Tackle the known and obvious opportunities, while creating opportunities by listening to clients to identify latent problems that Ardent can solve.
  • Get Position – Amplify Ardent’s capabilities and reputation with prospects and clients to greatly reduce the chance that we are overlooked for good-fit opportunities.
  • Effective Forecasting – Organize and communicate new business opportunities with a strong understanding for the importance of accurate and thoughtful forecasting.
  • Exceed Expectations – Surpass assigned financial targets.

Proposal Creation and Stand-Up Delivery (20% est.)

  • Be “In the Know” – Ensure Ardent is always aware of emerging opportunities with targeted prospects and clients by establishing that we have preferred vendor status or are included on RFP distribution lists at a minimum.
  • Prospect Insights – Harness Ardent’s best and empower all of our teams by effectively communicating detailed information and knowledge of the prospect or client back to the organization.
  • Engaging Presentations – Comfortable and capable of presenting to various job roles and levels of leadership, both in-person and virtually.

Solutions Collaboration (10% est.)

  • Represent – Set Ardent up for success by effectively selling our core solutions, engaging conversations around what is a stretch but possible, and intelligently traversing requests to deliver solutions outside of our desired area of expertise.
  • Be Specific – Share detailed situational information and feedback that generates opportunities for Ardent to develop impactful solutions that hit the mark and delight our clients.
  • Get Priorities Straight – Collaborate with Account Directors and Ardent leadership to help ensure the right time and effort is devoted to the development of solutions that are going to have the greatest impact.

Client Support (10% est.)

  • Be Present – After a new client has ben onboarded, stay engaged with the Account Director to ensure the human side of the relationship continues to strengthen, initial promises are fulfilled and opportunities for intra-account growth persist.

Experience and Training Required

  • Successfully selling services into the automotive industry preferred
  • Comfortable prospecting at the C or VP level
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Finance, Communications or related field
  • 7 – 10+ years’ experience as a team leader on strategic programs/development engagements
  • 3 – 5+ years' experience in team member development
  • Outstanding leadership and organizational skills
  • Experience in strategic planning and risk management
  • Theoretical and practical project management knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of change management techniques and tools
  • Proficiency in tools and technology including CRM and project management software tools
  • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency
  • WebEx Teams web conferencing experience preferred
